Many people have asked me how a pie comes into being. Here is a stitch by stitch journey to the creation of a SeaChild Kitty Pie.
Step 1
You contact me , seachild@shaw.ca and we arrange payment and confirm colour of pie etc. I then get to go wool
shopping! I try to use locally spun and dyed wool whenever possible along with Cascade Peruvian wool.
Step 2
I take all the skeins of wool and wrap them on something that looks
like an umbrella called a swift allowing me to wind skeins into centre pull
balls for ease of knitting. Step 3
I knit a pie from a tiny circle, into a bigger and bigger circle, increasing stitches and colours until I have something that looks like an enormous "touque". This is where I can add rows or features to customize your pies.
Step 4
Now is the fun part...I take knitted "touque" and put it in very hot water in the washer. I then use a wooden spoon and the agitate cycle to beat the wool into the felted material for the Pie Step 5
I squeeze excess water from bed and stretch over larger bowl to dry or "block" into shape.
Finally
I package up pie with a little extra love and send off to you for your furries to enjoy!
